St. Luke’s Elmore Development Plan

St. Luke’s Elmore is home to the only 24/7 emergency department in Elmore County—a rural region of 29,000 people spread over 3,000 square miles. But the emergency department has long exceeded its capacity. It’s the source of over 45% of patient services at St. Luke’s Elmore, serving more than 11,000 patients last year in a space built to handle just 5,000.

That’s why the emergency department is at the center of a major $5.5 million remodel that will more than double its size. “The new emergency department is designed with our patients in mind to improve comfort and privacy in a safe, easier-to-access space,” says emergency physician Karl Olson, MD. “With modern equipment, 10 beds, a secure room for high-risk patients, an enclosed ambulance bay, and a dedicated waiting area, we’ll be able to provide even better, more efficient care.”

Planned Emergency Department Improvements

  • Patient care and treatment areas will more than double in size
  • Beds will increase from 4 to 10
  • New entrance at front entrance of hospital for easier access
  • New dedicated waiting area for patients and family members
  • Direct access to enclosed ambulance bay

Planned Medical Center Improvements

The Elmore project will also add a new MRI suite, business center, clinic space, lab, and more. It will modernize the medical center’s entire environment, affecting every patient and visitor and every person on the 265-member staff. The first three of four phases of the project are complete.

  • Phase 1: Installation of a 9,480 square-foot specialty clinic modular building for visiting specialists
  • Phase 2: Installation of a 4,900 square-foot business office and outpatient services modular building for departments relocated during construction
  • Phase 3: Construction of the new emergency department
  • Phase 4: Remodel of the old emergency department for other hospital use
